Youthful Zeal

Humility brings us to a place of recognition. It allows us to see where we are, and it helps determine our need for God. It was through this revelation that Chris was able to become the man who he is today.

“There’s definitely a need for God in my life, it’s not like an option anymore. It’s a necessity now.”

Ricky: Tell me a little about yourself. Where did you grow up, stage in life, working, going to school, are you from DFW originally?

Chris: My name is Christopher Bowman I was born and raised in Houston, TX. I lived in Northwest Texas, I lived in the Cypress area. I went to Cypress Lakes High School, and now I go to UTA for school. I’m a Computer Science major, and I’m currently a Freshman.

Ricky: What are some of your favorite hobbies and something you would consider unique about yourself.

Chris: Hobbies? I just like chilling. I’m not really an exciting person. I’m so boring (he laughed).

Ricky: Tell me how you were met/invited to the DFWICC church?

Chris: I was on campus and I was walking to the UC to get some food, and this big guy (Kenny) came up to me. He was like “Ay, man! You wanna do a bible study?” I was like “Of Course! What time?” He was like “At one, three, or five.” I was like “I have class at all those times.” But I was like “I’ll make it.” I didn’t go to my five-o-clock class and I came.

Ricky: Really?! Did you get in trouble for missing class?

Chris: No, not at all.

Ricky: Describe your relationship with God prior to studying the bible and how it has changed?

Chris: I grew up always knowing who God was but during my high school years, like my junior or senior year– I wanted to grow in my relationship with God. I really honestly didn’t know where to start. I started with “I’m gonna read the bible!” Right? And then I ran through like the first, (I had like a children’s bible) I ran through like the first twelve chapters.

That wasn’t enough. I was like everyone else, reading a little daily verse everyday. I wasn’t very consistent, and that was me basically my whole senior year. Now I’m turning into a prayer warrior! My relationship with him is through the roof now. If I don’t have a quiet time, I’m not me no more. There’s definitely a need for him in my life, it’s not like an option anymore. It’s a necessity now.

Ricky: What are some of your favorite scriptures and why?

Chris: 1 Corinthians 13 all the way. Back in the day I wasn’t very loving, so that’s one of the things I really wanted to grow in.

Ricky: What advice would you give someone who has started studying the bible or is considering it?

Chris: Bro make that decision now! If you ever think it’s not going to be easy– you’re right, its not. But nothing is fun if it’s easy. If you come out to the DFWICC church– just take a look around the room, everybody in there has done the same thing as you.

We’re all here to help one another get to heaven, you know. So make that decision, save your life, and save everyone that you care about, you know.

Ricky: What do you love about the Kingdom?

Chris: At any meetings of the body I can stop, look around, take a step back, and it’s just wow! Every person in this room loves God as much as me. And I love how we’re all doing it for the right reasons.

We’re not doing this because our mother told us, or its tradition. We all made that decision to say Jesus is Lord.
