Our love story

According to one of our oldest scriptures in the bible, a man who finds a wife finds a good thing and has received favor from the Lord (Prov 18:22). That is certainly true after hearing Jay & Angie’s story, they were definitely made for each other.

Ricky: How did you two meet?

Jay: I went to my bother’s wedding who was marrying Angie’s roommate; that was the first time we met, and actually through that wedding, the guys– that’s where I began to study the bible actually. So I was baptized maybe about a month later, maybe a little over a month later. You know, so– some of the guys in the wedding party, you know, being around the disciples really won me over you know? With their love, everybody’s kindness, and stuff like that.

Angie wasn’t really mean to me or anything, she just didn’t talk to me at the wedding. But you know, after I got baptized we kinda became friends, and you know, we would go on dates, you know. Every month or so, we’d go out on a date and stuff like that. We just ended up doing a lot of things together and became good friends. I was baptized in ‘94.

Angie: So I was going to say, we were both in the singles ministry, so we were often in charge of putting events together.

Ricky: Oh, OK. How old were you back then?

Jay: I was baptized when I was 28, and at the time I think Angie was about 30.

Angie: Yeah, I was already a disciple for a while. I became a disciple as a Sophomore in college in San Francisco, and then I went on a mission team to Portland.

Ricky: So you were single for a few years before meeting Jay as a disciple?

Angie: Yeah I was a campus student. I was converted in campus.

Jay: So five years.

Angie: And then yeah…

Jay: She was baptized in ‘89 and I was baptized in ‘94.

Angie: So yeah, when we planted the church in Portland I was– well I was in the singles ministry. I was an intern actually for the church.

Ricky: Oh really? Nice.

Jay: Yeah, so we would DJ parties together. We were the entertainment people.

Angie: Yeah, because we both liked music and everybody knew. So that’s something I did in the world. I was a DJ.

Jay: This is back when you made mix tapes, that was a long time ago!

Angie: When you really– when you really used two keyboards okay. And records.

Jay: Records! We made our mixtapes off of records (they both begin to chuckle).
