Solid Proof
Ricky Jean~ Chief Editor
When it comes to the Bible, many would argue there is a lack of evidence that the events in it were true. However, the need for solid facts in the study of the Bible is the exact opposite of faith (Hebrews 11:1).
Daniel happens to fall in the latter category; he’s a man who examines the Bible daily (Acts 17:11), and accepts it as the word of God. This is a trait we all should learn in order to enhance our walk with God.
Ricky: Tell me a little about yourself. Where did you grow up, stage in life, working, going to school, are you from DFW originally?
Daniel: My name is Daniel. Right now I’m just a full time student. I was actually born in Arlington. Then I moved to Euless, TX when I was three months old. I’ve known this area my whole life. I know it like the back of my hand. I grew up going to Six Flags and all that; so it’s cool growing up and going to UTA.
I passed by it pretty much every single day of my life. Currently, I’m a full time student majoring in broadcasting, and I graduate either in the summer or next fall.
Ricky: What are some of your favorite hobbies and something you would consider unique about yourself?
Daniel: Some of my favorite hobbies are fishing, playing video games, and listening to music. Pretty much anything outdoors. I like doing unique things when being outdoors. If I could I would throw away my phone and be outdoors all day. I would be a caveman if I could, but I can’t be eating berries all day. I think that’s why I enjoy fishing so much; just feeling the sun on my skin is great.
Ricky: Tell me how you were met/invited to Church?
Daniel: I actually have a friend named Yoseph, but everybody calls him Yos. He actually goes to the church in Utah. And he actually set me up with Alan Ramos. He was like, “Hey man, I got a homeboy named Alan. He’s a part of the campus ministry here. You should do a Bible study with him.” Sure enough we just took off from there.
I actually did not finish the bible study the first time around. And the second time around I did it with Chris Mac and then he became my Discipler. I actually met him several months before I even got baptized. I met him in the UC; we were talking about football.
Ricky: What’s your favorite football team?
Daniel: Washington football team man. Former NFC East Champion! A.K.A the Cowboy killers. You know.
Ricky: Describe your relationship with God prior to studying The Bible and how it has changed?
Daniel: There’s a scripture that talks about deeds and actions. Basically I always “believed” in God. I just did not continuously put it into effect in my life. I always read my Bible but I didn’t really go to church though. After I got baptized and dived into his word I started actually living for God. Instead of just reading about it and getting knowledge, now I’m getting knowledge and actually living out his word.
Now I know the right way to live. I actually go to church now. I go to midweek, devo, etc.
Ricky: What are some of your favorite scriptures and why?
Daniel: One of my favorite scriptures comes from James. The bible has some crazy analogies. I like how James compares having a mouth that brings people down, and then worshipping God with that same mouth; you can’t do that. The Bible said both fresh and salt water can’t come from the same stream. That’s a crazy analogy.
Ricky: What advice would you give someone who has started studying the Bible or is considering it?
Daniel: If somebody is studying it– I would say keep going and the bible will just open you up. It will open up your view. Learning about God just changes you in a drastic way; it makes you a better person. The Bible is about having a relationship with God. It just shows you how to grow in all areas.
Now if somebody is just debating on studying the Bible– I would say give it a shot. It’s not really a loss, the bible helps you be a better person. And gives you a relationship with God. There’s nothing negative that comes from doing it.
Ricky: What do you love about the Kingdom?
Daniel: I just love how it’s one big family. I’ve been to many churches, I grew up in a church, and it never really felt like a family. Prior to DFWICC I’ve been going to the same church since I was like a baby, and the only people I knew was the pastor. I only knew his name. But in our church everyone knows you by name. Here it’s one big happy family. Everybody can lean on each other in times of need.
