In Honor of our Fathers

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.” (John 17:1). Children need their parents more than anything in life, especially during those formative years, where they typically form their personalities. They learn from observing the world around them, and how they are treated at home is very important. The way they are treated by their parents will assure them that they are loved, or unloved.
When a boy starts growing into a man, it’s only natural for him to look at his father. Becoming an adult is a very important part of life. In fact, the first human created by God was a man (Genesis 2:7). It’s no wonder there’s an entire holiday dedicated to fathers. Hearing Job Sterling share about fatherhood for Communion was incredibly endearing.
Being a father himself he was able to get open about its joys and struggles. According to Job– God understands this father son relationship really well (Galatians 4: 4-7). In other words, our dependence on this relationship dynamic is in our very nature. It was encouraging to watch all the fathers present on Sunday get lifted up. They were each given a small gift of appreciation from the DFWICC.
Fernando Chavez talked about Jesus’s relationship with his father (God) during his sermon. One key aspect that he noted was how much Jesus trusted God. And if our aim is to trust the Father, then we should learn to trust his people as well (1 John 4:20). At the end of service we welcomed two new brothers into the faith: Derrick Scott Jenkins from Consumed Bible Talk; and Israel Trujillo from Resolute Bible Talk.
